A month or two ago during my company’s Quarterly Business Meeting, our President shared one of his favourite quotes with us, which is to “grow where you are planted.” It took me a moment to really absorb the enormity of that statement, and it has now quickly become a favourite and something I often remind myself of.
To grow where you are planted means to really soak up as much knowledge as you can in the place you are at in the moment you are in – whether it is where you want to be or not. There is no such thing as a bad opportunity, so long as you use it to gain a new experience or develop a new skill. If you find yourself in a position that’s not ideal, remember that it can turn out to be either a stepping stone onto something greater, or simply a pebble that goes toward building a stronger foundation.
Accept where you are, keep a positive outlook, and you’ll end up looking back and realizing you actually learned a thing or two.
